Dana-Farber researcher struck, killed by bus near Longwood

The Globe reports on the death of Simin Arad, who was hit by a bus while she was on her way to work.

Simin Arad of Roxbury, a researcher at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, was crossing the intersection of Ruggles Street and Huntington Avenue when she was struck by a medical area shuttle bus just before 9 a.m., Boston police said.

Arad was taken to Brigham and Women’s, where she succumbed to her injuries, police said. Passengers on the bus said "they were passing through a green light when a female who was on the sidewalk just walked in front of the bus,‘’ according to police records. "The driver attempted to stop, but struck her.’’

Arad’s son, Yashar Farahvash, 27, said last night that his mother was on her way to work when she was killed. Farahvash said his mother moved him and his 25-year-old brother to Boston about 10 years ago from Tehran, where she worked as a dermatologist, because she wanted to get more involved with research.

Simin Arad lists herself as a “biothechnology professional” on her Linked In web site. While at the BU School of Medicine in 2008, she has published research on basal cell carcinmoa in the American Journal of Pathology. Am J Pathol. 2008 May; 172(5): 1248-1255.
