Do Try This At Home: Mass Homeopathic Overdose

We all know that homeopathy is a waste of time, right? Even my spell checker refuses to acknowledge its veracity. (But, then, it also disputes the word ‘blog’.)

On 30 January, a bunch of ‘skeptical protesters’ will gather at Conway Hall to take a mass overdose of homeopathic remedies. Participants will each down a whole bottle of homeopathic ‘pillules’ in protest at the stance of Boots, the high-street chemist, which continues to vend the pills despite their utter uselessness.

To take part, either at the venue or from home, follow the instructions here.

Great idea, and fantastic way to make a point!

That’s a lot of sugar, though… make sure there are no diabetics in the group! Although I guess it’s probably only equivalent to half a can of Coke or something depressing like that.

Cath, you might be able to calculate a rough equivalence from this.

There has been quite a bit of activity stirred up by this campaign on Twitter (see the #ten23 hastag). The campaign has even prompted the creation of a homeopathic site at https://www.1023homeopathy.org.uk/ which rehashes many of the old canards about this out-dated woo. But their objections have had little impact. I’m gratified to see that the overdose stunt has been picked up in the national press, so it is already achieving its aim of drawing attention to the nuttiness of this particular branch of alternative medicine.

I have signed up for the 10:23 London protest and aim to go along on Sat week.
