Ban Ki-Moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), is reportedly leaving the arena of international climate politics.
But the de-facto failure of the Copenhagen meeting and the slow progress of international climate negotiations since seem to have left their mark. As the Guardian reports, Ban will no longer be involved in the negotiations leading up to the next UN climate summit in December in Durban, South Africa.
The paper quotes senior UN officials as saying that Ban will in the future focus on broader issues of clean energy and sustainable development.
