I was under the impression that several species of coral are able to catch prey. A scuba diver can watch Diploria (the brain corals) capture plankton at night. Is their relationship with algae simply more efficient?

Well, this sounds to me like it might be another case of 'nonexistant' evolution in action in our lifetimes. But then again, according to the Creationist theory, this isn't really happening.
