To be blunt: Hard of hearing
Looking for the point of seemingly pointless research.
Did you know that there are scientists who study deaf budgies? I didn't. But this mysteriously titled paper has brought the field to my attention: "Perception of complex sounds in budgerigars (Melopsittacus undulatus) with temporary hearing loss."

I am not at all surprised. As someone with a cochlear implant, I constantly have to re-learn how to decipher words, environmental sounds and so on, everytime my external processor is upgraded. The brain is exceptionally good at adapting to these changes.

Yes, I can see the significance of the research. After hearing how human ear hair dries up and falls out, reducing hearing in the elderly, it appears to be yet another problem with human aging I will have to fix.
