NASA's 'first date' with China

The space agency's visit to China is overdue — the rest of the world went there long ago.

This could be the start of a beautiful friendship. That, at least, is how the Chinese press seems keen to portray the visit this week by NASA head Mike Griffin, who is touring Beijing and Shanghai at the invitation of President Hu Jintao. China Central Television proudly proclaims "China, US to boost space cooperation", while China Daily reports "China-US space co-op set for lift-off".

Interesting

For the last several years, NASA has been going to different countries trying to get corporation with them with space exploration. With the amount of criticism and bad publicity that they have been getting lately, that are looking for other people to join with before their funding is cut off. With the accidents that have been going on and the aging equipment, of course that are turning to China for help. They have some of the best minds when it comes to manufacturing items that would be needed. From shuttles to panels to life support equipment. We are going to them in a last hour effort to save our dying space agency. I am not sure if it will help anything or if it is to little to late. I myself think they exploration of space is important and I hope that we can save it.

I don't thinh that China will make good exploaration of the space with the USA... they don't like the NASA!

The truth is that NASA does appear to be way behind in its technology. While, truth be told, it can't be easy making space technology, I still do seem to feel that they're still stuck somewhere in the 60's and 70's, and they haven't REALLY progressed as much as they could have. Perhaps, it's because there really isn't a space race anymore and it appears most of the world isn't that interested. Everyone wants to rather see world peace, and the environment fixed – or the internet get better. I do find it strange, though, that we don't have as much private funding as I would have expected... or private space corporations. Perhaps, the only way space exploration will go further, is if we could actually make a business out of it.

Good for China and US. Here in our place, China through its investors and businessmen are starting to go their own way. There has been a lot of issues pointing towards Chinese-owned business and investments caused by the locals.
