AU Summit: Not the best of beginnings
Scientists and science ministers ended the inaugural session somewhat in a state of shock. Rather than focus on science, the opening speeches from heads of state focused mostly on the international year of football in Africa. “This is not a football summit,” said one minister as he left the conference hall. Another said: “This is not what we need to pull the continent out of underdevelopment.” Presentations on science and on climate change are up next. Climate change has been rising up the summit agenda over recent weeks and some see the hand of Tony Blair in this.

Dear Sir: In reference to the notion that the practices prescribed in western science "are the way to go " i.e. are an irrefutable and absolute, absolutely valid, only means to overcome the problems of mankind.."get in with the crowd"...I wish to assert that current total scientific comprehensions of nature, though experimentally testable and apparently established, are incomplete; it may result that in a final truth, current notions may not be even a component or subset component of a true appraisal.
In example, in viewing the practices of western man it does often collect on his intellect that, as all reactions have an opposite reaction, the process of witness not only induces changes , it is responsible for all change. A man who likes animals, and sacrafices them for medical study, rationalizes to agree with a majority that choses to use them in research, and effects a change on himself. This change, whether, involving those with a special fondness for animals, those who only think of humane treatments, or those who are neutral and view life and death is a natural process regardless of the specific events that are involved ..any change is a reflection of the event(intended appliacation) is ubiquitiously inherited by all those involved and is a self incurred change. In a similiar manner, by proceesses of witness, changes can also escape the isolated environments of the laboratory, much less to mention intended applications, in general, direct to the places we inhabit and wherein we struggle with a lack of comprehension of the world around us-accepting science fact which offers either explanation, or exceeds the real into the magical with experimental prediction. Change the temperature of the sea a fish swims in, the fish after time gains a different view of temperature with relation to his habitat, especially if the sea is changed by his own hand(consider the analogy of a person trying to tickle himself-is only possible for another person to accomplish). An animal sacraficed in the laboratory is not the same as an animal losing his life to some other means-how he loses his life- what the history and details are are what the history and details are-there are no valid assumptions or extrapolations. A device used to generate energy is not the same as the event occuring naturally..a bomb used in warfare....changes the bomber, those who accept science reasoning to endorse technical warfare etc. The glue of nature may only have a single surface to it- in example a unity of nature not yet arrived at by science that excludes the stepping stones to its its' finding. The writer of theory rarely, if not ever, intend its' application on society..they are mental abstractors building abstractions seeking edification-learning - self edification and learning. If one were to ask a scientist why it is not fesaible to build batteries from bacteria simply becasue they do not appear to think-would do not harm- he has a long route to reason the ludicrousness of this proposal.. Are nanomaterials(a vast research component of medern science technology), obviously in change-going uphill or downhill-what difference would it make to build and apply related things?. How can a single truth or false hood in a series of very complicated even well thought through statements act as levers-fulcrums with many magnitude fold influence over a vast total depending on their own truth-a truth of as yet unconceived of or reflected in a haste bearing haste(what(or which of the known?) forces of nature are suitable for environmental manipulation. Rock throwing, the construction of abodes, the utilization of material objects of direct learning from perception, things of a general common experience of mankind from the dawn of civilization are not the same as the immaterials of energy and force of which I believe much less is comprehended than is assumed.
