If a great ape is an animal then so am I. It's only anthropic vanity that the Family Hominidae exists - taxonomically we should be in the Family Pongidae.

At this point in time, all non-human species deserve more rights than humans. It is time for homo sapiens to step up to the plate and begin taking care of this planet.
