Doctors announce new fertility feat

Baby is first to be born from eggs matured and frozen in the lab.

Doctors in Canada have announced the birth of the first baby to be created from an egg that was matured in a test tube and then frozen and thawed for later use. The method offers hope for women who fall victim to sudden ovarian failure or who cannot be given drugs that promote egg maturation in the ovaries themselves.

I felt overwelmed about this news,my hopes are now open again because of this and I'm proud and happy for those doctors and scientific methods that are being made.Because my fertility problem really makes me losing hope in life.Keep up the good works.God bless you all!

It is beyond comprehension why so many women put themselves through painful and stressful fertility enhancing procedures (with high failure rates) instead of just adopting. It just seems such a waste of time and resources not to mention the fact that there are so many homeless and orphaned kids in the world that are living terrible lives on the streets. Think of what a difference the money that is poured into fertility treatments would make to them. There's nothing wrong with my fertility but my kids will be adopted.

These are very interesting and exciting developments and I feel very hopeful for the people who will benefit from them. I have to say, however, that the reader comment about "just" adopting is a little glib - and is one that I have heard many, many times. As someone undergoing the adoption process, it is my experience that it can be just as emotionally trying and expensive - if not more so! - as fertility procedures.

Although I am personally choosing to adopt rather than spend money and time on fertility treatments, I've also noticed how often people are deemed selfish for wanting to have biological children and think it very strange. Many people choose adoption, but it is not a process to be taken lightly; infertility can be a significant loss and adoption is not a band-aid for that loss.

Another degree of liberation for women ... Another degree of seperation for mankind.
Women who freeze eggs at 18 can select any age at which to begin childbearing.Liberation from the clock at last. Women of means only need apply, however.
Some will find it best to use a sperm donor as is already commonly practised. Men: are you ready for this? For men wanting family life, things are getting a bit more complicated.
Women wanting truely non-traditional family life should feel encouraged.
