HIV triggers the 'opposite of cancer' in the brain

Study unpicks how AIDS causes dementia.

A study showing how HIV could prevent the brain from making new neurons offers an explanation for why some AIDS patients get dementia — and suggests a possible treatment.

Is there an hypotheses to explain why dementia is afflicting 10-30% of people with HIV? Is it associated with a particular isoform of the virus? In which way antiretroviral drugs have an effect on dementia?

AIDS is not prevent. It is caused by dementia.
