Researchers discover that skeleton is actually an endocrine organ.
The traditional view of the skeleton as an inert frame is challenged by a new study showing that it also plays an important part in the body's hormonal system. Cells in the bone produce a hormone that influences blood sugar levels and fat deposition.

It seems to me that this provides a mechanism for maintaining a constant weight. The osteoblasts would sense the pull of gravity, and then they could control body compostion.

It would be interesting to see if there is a link between excerise, osteocalcin, and insulin resistance. If weight training had a positive affect on health, as it relates to insulin resistance, by affecting the leave of such a hormone like osteocalcin.
