Saying thanks to our bloggers

We’ve been very fortunate on Nature Network to host an extended family of science bloggers for over 4 years. Blogs here have covered subjects from PhD diaries to science politics, career transitions to expeditions. While we know that some of the rewards of science blogging are that it can be entertaining, educational, informative, occasionally challenging and sometimes just a lot of fun, we want to express an additional thank you to all our regular providers of content on the site. It’s you that ask the interesting questions have the nose for good data, the acuity to spark an unexpected conversation and the willingness to share interesting findings.

And so we’re really pleased to be able to announce details of our new recognition system for Nature Network bloggers. As of May 2011 we’ll be providing online subscriptions to Nature according to the following terms:

Any blogger who publishes a minimum of 1 post per week/4 blog posts per month in a given calendar month will receive a 3 month online Nature subscription. This will be applied retroactively to include all suitable posts starting with those made in April 2011. New Nature Network bloggers also qualify for this scheme when they join.

At the end of the initial 3 month subscription, the blogger earns an additional 3 month online subscription to Nature if he/she has averaged at least one post per week and posted 4 blog posts per month over that 3 month period.

If a blogger doesn’t make a minimum of 1 post per week/4 blog posts per month in any calendar month, their Nature online subscription will be renewed after the next month in which they resume posting 1 post per week/4 blog posts per month or more.

The NN team’s decision is final on what constitutes a “post”. As a rough guide, personally created cartoons, photo-blogs with a suitable narrative and book reviews would all be acceptable. One line entries to provoke debate or simply adding a link to other content, would not. If you’re in any doubt, please email "network@nature.com ":mailto:network@nature.com for advice from the NN team.

We look forward to putting this new scheme into practice and hope that many of you will enjoy full access to the weekly issue of Nature and its online archives back to 1869.

Congratulations

We would like to congratulate this month’s bloggers who have qualified for a free 3 month subscription to Nature:

Grrlscientist

Eric-Wubbo Lameijer

Paige Brown

Barbara Ferreira

For those bloggers who haven’t qualified, do not be disheartened as there is always next month.

Keep up the great blogging!

This is a welcome effort, particularly for new bloggers unaffiliated to any educational institution. Bloggers working at large universities probably already have unlimited access to Nature through their University libraries, but this is indeed a great incentive.

Thanks for the feedback, Kausik. You’re right that some bloggers may already have institutional access to Nature but we hope that a personal subscription will be a convenient way of being able to access Nature content at home (or elsewhere) too. This should permit more time to enjoy browsing at leisure, rather than between experiments! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for the wonderful reward! Even more than a subscription to Nature, I find great incentive to keep blogging about science every time I receive a motivational, complimenting, or helpful comment from a reader! Thank you Nature Network!

Hi Akin, to confirm this subscription is only applicable to Nature Network bloggers who qualify.

Although we do appreciate those who regularly comment and contribute to the online network, so do keep it up.
