SpotOn London 2012 Fringe Events

With only a month now until this year’s SpotOn London, we’d like to let you know the details of a few fun fringe activities that we have organised. If you’ve already got a ticket for the conference, you’ll have received two emails from us  via Eventbrite inviting you to sign up for the events. As space is limited at both, you’ll need to do so as soon as possible. Tomorrow, if there are any spaces left, we’ll then open registration to anyone else interested and the links to the Eventbrite pages below will be accessible to all.

SpotOn London Hackday

When: Saturday 10th November 11am-5pm

Where: The Macmillan Building, Crinan Street, London

You are warmly invited to join Digital Science at their offices for a hackathon the day before the SpotOn London conference.

Free food, drink and WiFi will be provided, but please bring exciting ideas for a cool science hack, or join the other participants and work on something together.

In the weeks to come we’ll be collecting ideas on the SpotOn website. You don’t have to be a programmer – we also need good ideas, web designers and writers.

During the SpotOn conference we will have the opportunity to show our work to the other conference participants in a special lunch break session.

Register your attendance here.

Organisers: Euan Adie and Martin Fenner

The Story Collider

When: Saturday 10th November 6.30pm – 10.30pm

Where:  The Camden Head pub, Camden High Street, London.

Kicking things off the night before SpotOn London is the launch event of the London version of the Story Collider, a NYC-based science storytelling initiative. The evening will feature ~ 6 storytellers, each drawing on the “Connections” theme of SpotOn London.

From finding awe in Hubble images to visiting the doctor, science is everywhere in our lives. Whether we wear a white lab coat or haven’t seen a test tube since we were kids, science affects and changes us.

At the Story Collider’s live show, you’ll hear some of the UK’s most interesting people get on stage and share their true, personal stories about science. (storycollider.org)
