$1 million Boost For Tropical Medicine School

You’ve got to love Bill Gates. In the same way you had to hate him in the 1990s. His philanthropic piggybank, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, just donated $1 million to the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

LSHTM is is both the first British winner and the first academic institution to receive the award, which honours institutions that improve health in developing countries. The funds will now be used to train and retain health workers overseas.

The school specialises in the prevention and cure of infectious diseases around the world, but is also branching out into other common killers such as cardiovascular disease and cancer.

They’re so chuffed about the award, they’ve even made a video. See here.
