A Case of Chinese Identity

Here’s something a little different. The Wellcome Collection are hosting a two-day symposium looking at the idea of ‘identity’ in Chinese culture. What has this to do with science? Several of the main strands concern research coming out of China. For example, the discussion entitled ‘Unborn life and stem cell research in China: changing values and scientific quests’ looks at how China’s burgeoning expertise at regenerative medicine might play out in a nation with unique legal and cultural systems. Another talk examine how the one-child policy has impacted on public health. The symposium coincides with the (excellent) Eight Rooms, Nine Lives exhibition. Tickets are £30, giving entrance to both days.

China: Birth and Belonging is at the Wellcome Collection, 26-27 February.
