Call for ideas—newcomers guide to the Boston science scene

With the academic year starting up, and the influx of scientists moving to Boston to start grad school or to start new postdoc or faculty positions, I thought it would be a good time to do a fun, light-hearted “guide to the science scene in Boston” on Nature Network Boston. I will compile a top 5 or top 10 list but I’m looking for input from you.

So have your say and send me any suggestions you might have on the following:

– top 5 things that would be fun and cool for a newly arrived scientist to see and do…or top 5 cool places to hang out with other scientists

– top 5 things to do that are overhyped and should be avoided in Boston

– top 5 common mistakes or misconceptions that new arrivals often make or have

– top 5 useful resources that newcomers should take advantage of

– any other ideas you might have. Basically, I’m looking for anything you know now that you wish you knew when you first arrived in Boston.

Please email me your ideas at c.lok@boston.nature.com

Of course, you don’t have to suggest 5 things for each of the above headings. I’m hoping to get a few from each person and put them together into one or a couple of top 5 lists. Thanks!
