Canadian climate scientist Andrew Weaver has filed a lawsuit against the National Post – a conservative newspaper that publishes nationally – regarding its coverage of the recent controversies at the University of East Anglia and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. (CBC)

It wasn’t immediately clear which of the many columns, editorials and news stories are targeted by Weaver’s lawsuit, but a simple search pulls up plenty of potential candidates. Although Weaver might be the first to go to court, many scientists have criticized media coverage of the issue. Indeed, climate scientists have been scratching their heads for months trying to figure out how to respond to the flood of bad press – as well as a spike in aggressive tactics by climate sceptics.
