Careers podcast asks scientists how they got to the top

Our collegues at Naturejobs have launched their own podcast. The first in the series interviews some of the scientists who attended September’s Source event. The basic premise is ‘how did you get to where you are now?’. Four speakers reveal the sometimes unorthodox routes to the top, and offer advice on how to stand out from the crowd.

Stephen Minger of King’s College London talks about his idiosyncratic route from the factory floor into science.

Jim Loftus, the recruitment manager at Pfizer, reveals what kept him in industry for 19 years.

Jan Bogg from the University of Liverpool talks about career issues for women in science.

Nigel Broom of GlaxoSmithkline discusses his unexpected career route – from research scientist in the 1970s to R&D recruiter today.

If you like what you hear, the podcast will be updated monthly. In the meantime, ask any career related questions you like on our new Naturejobs forum.
