You’ve probably encountered Geek Pop, an annual ‘virtual’ festival of science, music and general geekery. This year’s cavalcade launches on 10 March with a decidedly non-virtual opening party.
The organisers have lined up one of the most impressive venues in London – Wilton’s Music Hall – for an evening of rhythm and booze. This Victorian East-End music hall is preserved in a semi-crumbling state, with flaking plaster and misnomered joinery providing an unforgettable atmosphere of faded working-class glory.
The Amateur Transplants top the bill. You may have encountered this troupe thanks to their hugely popular (if mildly impolite) London Underground song. They’re joined by Dr Martin Austwick, who sings songs about science and holds a PhD in Physics from Oxford. The evening will be hosted by Blue Peter’s resident science expert (apparently) Steve Mould. More on the speakers/singers here.
The event takes place on 10 March, from 7.30pm, and tickets are here.
