The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded today to Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climage Change (IPCC).
I’m glad to see the work of scientists awarded in a non-science category of the Nobel Prizes. There’s a lot of general interest in the Peace prize (perhaps more than in the chemistry, physics and medicine/physiology prizes) so this gives scientists and their work much greater exposure to policy-makers and the public, underscoring how important the work of scientists is to society. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have Al Gore on your side too!
