The Real Music of the Spheres
2500 years ago the Pythagoreans
believed in a celestial Music of the Spheres. Now we know that there is a real
music of the spheres. This multimedia lecture will look at the relationship of music to stellar sounds. You will hear the real sounds of the stars (with a key change) and musical compositions where every member of the orchestra is a real (astronomical) star. The Kepler spacecraft lets us “hear” the stars 100 times better than with telescopes on the ground. Come see exciting discoveries about strange stars and learn how stellar sounds help in the search for another Earth. When

Jay Bradner, M.D. Cancer researchers are seeking to discover all the genetic mutations that lead to all different types of cancers. This research has identified new opportunities for the development of therapies targeted to specific cancers. Jay Bradner will discuss the history of cancer therapies, and the promises and challenges of this new, targeted approach. He will highlight emerging creative approaches to cancer drug discovery, including a more open-source model as a proposed remedy for an ailing pharmaceutical industry.
