You may have noticed that when we relaunched Nature Network, we added some extra features, one of which is the new Q&A area. We’ve had lots of plans in the pipeline for Q&A for a while now, so we’re very excited to be able to announce a couple of guest Q&A sessions that will be taking place this week and next.
Event 1: iSTGW computing tools discussion
If you’re in any way involved with working with computers, iSGTW (a weekly online computing magazine sponsored by Fermilab, CERN, Open Science Grid and the European Grid Initiative) are hosting a live chat at 3.30 pm BST on Wednesday 14th July followed by discussions on Nature Network that may be of interest.
The hour-long live chat is entitled “Roundtable Q&A: Choose and use the right computing tool for your research with feedback from the experts” and will be followed by continuing discussions on Nature Network’s Q&A section.
The impressive line up of experts, who will be responding to any Q&A questions for the following week, includes:
- Steven Newhouse, director of the newly formed European Grid Initiative in Amsterdam
- Vangelis Floros of GRNet
- Marc-Elian Begin of SixQ
- Philip Blood, a specialist from the applications group of Pittsburgh Supercomputing Centre
To take part in the live chat and to find out more about the experts you can check out the iSTGW website If you’d like to submit or search for questions on this topic in Q&A please use the “iSGTW debate” category from the drop-down menu.
Event 2: UK Science Policy Q&A with Dr Julian Huppert, MP
If you were following the recent general election in the UK, you will know that there are many topics of concern for scientists in the UK at the moment and several Nature Network members have written on the subject, including Sara Fletcher, Austin Elliott and Stephen Curry. In the election, Cambridge elected a new Liberal Democrat MP, Dr Julian Huppert who is now the only practicising scientist in Parliament and he has kindly agreed to answer your science policy questions next week.
If you could post any questions that you may have by the beginning of Monday, Dr Huppert will endeavour to respond to them and we’ll also feature a write-up and interview on Nature Network after the event.
If you’d like to submit or search for questions on this topic in Q&A please use the “MP event” category from the drop-down menu.
Everyone is warmly invited to participate in both of these sessions, so please do submit any questions you may have or remember to check back to see what others have been discussing. If you’re still not sure how the Q&A section works, you might want to look at the how-to guide we compiled or email the team at network@nature.com.
