What if?…Coping With Uncertainty In Health Science presents a panel of speakers including the ubiquitous Tracey Brown of Sense About Science and a quartet of eminent professors. The learned team will discuss how important medical decisions can be made in the dearth of 100% scientific. It’s free to attend, so just turn up for a 6pm start. Meanwhile, over at UCL, Bill McGuire looks at worst-case-scenario climate change in a talk called Earth Bites Back. This is also free, and starts at 6.30pm.
Wednesday
‘The Worshipful Company of Tin Plate Workers alias Wire Workers’ put on a special lecture tonight looking at small satellites. Professor Sir Martin Sweeting discusses how cheap but capable satellites are changing the industry, allowing smaller nations a toehold in space. Starts 6pm and is followed by networking.
Thursday
Another chance to see the Earth Bites Back lecture. It’s free, open to all, and begins at 1.15pm.
Friday
Back the the Royal Society for a lunchtime event (1pm) about mathematics and beauty. Graham Farmelo considers quantum mechanical magus Paul Dirac and his attitude towards maths. Another free event.
Sunday
The monthly chance to visit one of London’s least-known museums comes round again today. The Kirkaldy Testing Museum (99 Southwark Street) is concerned with engineering and the testing of materials. Visit for free any time between 11am and 3pm.
