Tonight: Scientists Singing Songs about Science

We promise to take a break from the local science fest and get back to serious science. But, first, we’ll get extra silly.

Improbable Research will present two events: Scientists (and friends) Sing Improbable Science Songs — MONDAY NIGHT, May 2, 7:30 pm. Central Square Theater.

TICKETS are on sale at the Central Square Theater and online. This will be a benefit for the Catalyst Collaborative@MIT Science Theater Project.

Some of the world’s great scientists (and some friends from the Boston area’s theater and music communities) perform songs by Tom Lehrer, songs from Ig Nobel Prize ceremony mini-operas, and other beloved and hated purportedly funny songs about science. Songs include: The Elements, Lobachevsky, Stress Analysis of a Strapless Evening Dress, the mini-opera Atom & Eve, The Coffee Diet, and much more. Featuring:

•Improbable Research editor Marc Abrahams

Nobel Laureate Frank

Wilczek as Atom and Teresa Winner Blume as Eve in the mini-opera “Atom & Eve

MIT prof and Nobel Laurteate Frank Wilczek will sing the lead role in the opera “Atom & Eve.”

The Herman Feshbach Professor of Physics, Wilczek was awarded the Nobel for work on subatomic particles indicating that distance makes the quarks grow fonder (or at least increases their attraction).

This will be Wilczek’s operatic singing debut, as well as the first time “Atom & Eve” has been performed in Austria. The opera recounts the romance between a humble oxygen atom and the beautiful female chemist who spies him one day in her microscope.
