Nature Network London on Flickr

It was only a matter of time, really. Like all good ‘web 2.0’ sites, we wouldn’t be properly dressed without a Flickr group.

Now, half of you are probably saying ‘eh?’ while the rest say ‘yay!’. For those not in the know, Flickr is a site that lets you store, share and organise photos.

We’ve set up a group especially for users of Nature Network London. It’s a place to file any images that capture science in our city…however tenuously.

What should I put in the group?

• Buildings associated with science: institutions, museums, laboratories, historical places…

• Statues, busts, sculpture and other artwork relating to science.

• Exhibits and events

• People associated with science: science celebrities, or even you at your bench.

• Science iconography: apparatus, white coats, lecture halls, etc.

Are you going to use my images?

To start with, it’s just a bit of fun. A way of visually capturing the local science culture.

Once the group gets going, we might introduce a ‘photo of the week’ competition, or showcase the best shots in some other way.

With your permission, and with full credit of course, photos might be used to illustrate blog posts, news articles or events on Nature Network. If you’ve taken a really nice shot, we might even consider it for the banner image.

So have a play, and use your imagination. Oh, there’s a group for anyone in the Boston area too.

Common sense smallprint: if images are taken on private property, be sure to ask permission first. Likewise, don’t upload close-ups of individuals without their consent.
