The response from users to Nature Network since we launched in February has been tremendous and usage (page views, activity, number of registered users) has been growing steadily since then. We’ve gotten a ton of feedback on how we can improve/enhance Nature Network and we’re using that feedback to fill up and prioritize our list of to-do’s. We have a team of developers working pretty much full-time on NN to get through that list. Our aim is to release fixes and new features every 2 weeks or so.
These last couple of months have been focused mainly on cleaning up bugs, improving navigation, just general housekeeping. We’ve recently begun developing brand new features, which we’re very excited about.
The first new thing we put out just last week was the enhanced publication feature. Before, you had to manually enter publications on your profile, which we heard loud and clear from you was a big pain. So now, you can simply enter the DOI or PubMed ID for the paper and all the fields like author and title will be automatically entered for you.
To add to that, you can now choose to post any of your publications on the page for any of the groups you belong to. This way, the group profile page will show the publications of its members, giving people more of a feel for what the group is all about.
Here’s what’s on tap for the next couple of months:
* a new registration system: simpler, faster, less of a hassle
* email alerts from the forums: anytime new content is posted to one of your group forums, you’ll get an email (if you want it, that is) telling you. This way, you don’t have to check back at the site just to see if anything’s been posted to your forum.
* a personal messaging system: so you can get in touch with another Nature Network user
And there’s plenty more to come. Please keep providing us with feedback on what to build next. Post your suggestions on this blog post or on our “What’s next?” “forum.”:https://network.nature.com/forum/whats-next
