A round up of unrelated snippets from around town this week: first up is that there was much excitement on Twitter with the news that Professor of Biomedical Materials and Regenerative Medicine at Imperial College Molly Stevens, is featured in the Wonder Women section of July’s edition of Vogue.
Meanwhile, the Association of British Science Writers has announced the shortlist for its annual awards. Lots of familiar names featured, including plenty of London based writers, but for title alone, I think it’s going to be difficult to beat out Murder at the Bat Cave from Shaoni Bhattacharya, a consultant to New Scientist based in London.
Last but not least, positive reports that the University College London Ear Institute, led by Martin Birchall, professor of laryngology, has been given the go ahead by the Royal College of Surgeons on its plans for full voicebox transplants. The second full transplant was carried out in California last year and Professor Birchall will now seek funding for a trial programme in the UK. Full report in the Guardian.
