A new exhibition at the Royal Institution presents a very special parade of naked people. Each image, by artist Anne Brodie, was captured under conditions where the only light source came from bioluminescent bacteria – Photobacterium phosphorem, since you ask.

The unusual, otherworldly effect is, in part, caused by the diminution in luminescence towards the end of each exposure, as the bacteria die off and the light levels drop.
The exhibition officially opens tonight, with a talk by the artist, and runs until 3 December.
