Royal Society’s Big Summer Festival Almost Here

By now, you must have heard that the Royal Society is celebrating its 350th year. The focus for those celebrations begins in just over a week as the venerable institution takes over the whole of the South Bank Centre for a ten-day festival.

See Further, riffing, of course, on the famous Newton quote, combines the Society’s usual Summer Festival with a 60-pronged events program of music, theatre, comedy, film, broadcasts and arts all themed around science.

Perhaps the biggest name speaking at the Festival is Brian Greene. The renowned string theorist and presenter makes a rare UK appearance on July 2. On the research side, you’ll find over 30 UK research groups touting their work around the Royal Festival Hall.

Most importantly, the festival also offers the opportunity for scientists to have their say on the future of UK research. Please give your thoughts generously in the Tomorrow’s Giant’s forum, which will feed into the special one-day conference held on 1 June.

The festival runs from 25 June to 4 July. Entrance to the main exhibition is free, with tickets for the events varying in price. Follow on Twitter (@seefurtherfest) and send pics to their Flickr group.
