Science by the Pint: Cafes from WGBH to Cambridge and beyond

Not all meet-ups are on MeetUp.com

We read on the We Beasties blog that “Science by the Pint” is back in Boston. Organized by WGBH’s NOVA science NOW, the national program was modeled after the UK’s Cafe Scientifique .

We missed last week’s, but the Harvard students who run the “Science in the News” program promise meet on the first Tuesday of every month at an new location: The Tavern in Porter Square.

Here’s how Ben Wiehe of NOVA scienceNOW describes to the local gathering:

I started café Sci because many of the people living in Boston have only a vague understanding of the exciting research that is going on right in their own neighborhoods. I also chose the science café format because I think it has the potential to make science a popular cultural force, like live music or sports. café Sci is designed to attract a young audience—twenty- and thirty-somethings—who may not typically talk about science.
