Meteor scientists in town for the international Meteoritical Society Conference will be talking about their work and answering questions at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich all week. Talks are 2:15 and 3:15, free but ticketed and appropriate for 11+.
The monthly SameAs meet-up organised by Digital Science is entitled Serendipity, looking at how the web is influencing chance encounters and conversations. Three female speakers will kick the discussion off: Natalie Downe, co-founder of Lanyrd, a social event directory; Aleks Krotoski, academic and tech journalist and Kat Jungnickel, Research fellow at the University of East London. Free and open to all: 7pm at The Driver in Kings Cross.

The British Library’s summer activities for kids continue this week with a three day programme on imaginary worlds. Tuesday – Thursday 11.00 – 12.30 and 15.00 – 16.30, join artist Jean Campbell to draw or construct your imaginary world. Free; no need to book.
Wednesday
Ever been curious about what it is that makes some food so good? Join the Royal Society of Chemistry for What flavour is my lunchbox, an interactive event to eat lunch with food scientist Dr Jane Parker and discover how all five senses are contributing to its flavour. 12:30 start, £10 ticket, lunchbox included.

The meteor scientists are still taking questions at the Royal Observatory.

A two day event from the Southbank Centre: Transport Futures 1951 & 2011. From a 1951 Festival of Britain London bus to Shell UK’s Eco-Marathon car and EADS’ amazing 3D printed AirBike, the event will have British transport technology old and new, looking at how innovation keeps pace with our ever-increasing desire to get around. Free; no need to book.
