Science Events In London This Week: 26 September – 2 October

Monday

Kew Gardens begins its six month series of Monday evening lectures with Growing grapes for English wine Each Monday the lecture will be about 45 minutes, preceding by short items from Kew staff and students. £2, 6pm start at the Jodrell Laboratory.

Imperial’s climate change unit, the Grantham Institute presents Buildings – the debate heats up, looking at what can be done about energy use in buildings, both in China and at home. 6pm; free but book.

Tuesday

A full day event at Imperial for Postgraduates on Science Careers Speakers include Phil Campbell, editor of Nature and Peter Stern, Senior Editor of Science. Currently full, but see the website for contact details.

Wednesday

This month’s Science Museum Lates is the opening event for the five day PLAYER Festival. The Museum will be turned into giant muliplayer versions of classics like Pong and Battleships with displays, games, events and more.

Thursday

The Wellcome Collection takes on one of the most misunderstood subjects: diet and health. Bad behaviour in the kitchen looks at how choices impact the world as well as our waistlines, with food production, availability and education for all on the debating table. 7pm; free but book.

Friday

Prosperity through Chemistry is the RI’s FED lecture for September. FEDs are open to members and their guests and evening dress is encouraged. This talk looks at current research in areas including energy sources, food, clean water, and healthcare.

Saturday

The Royal Society hosts a two day Science and Literature festival, with dozens of high profile speakers including Marcus de Sautoy, Sebastian Faulks and Paul Nurse. Events are mainly £4 a head, so take a look at the calendar and book now because it’s hard to believe some won’t sell out.

Sunday
