Alice Shepherd of Galaxy Zoo is the guest at this month’s Science in the Pub 7:30pm at the Brixton Ritzy cafe for a talk by Alice on citizen science, a live experiment and some friendly debate about science. All welcome.
Thursday
Author of ten books and winner of a Pulitzer prize, Edward J. Larson, is at the Royal Society tonight for a lecture on the role of science in Scott’s Antarctic expeditions and the scientific legacy he left. 6pm; free.
Friday
First day of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Royal Observatory. Entry to the Observatory is free, although you may well have to queue for your chance to hop over the Meridian Line.
Saturday
The Kew Bridge Steambridge Museum in Brentford holds a special weekend on the internal combustion engine with resident internal combustion pumping engines and visiting exhibits. 11am – 4pm both days; adults £9.50
Sunday
More internal combustion engines in Brentford
The first in a six part series of monthly scientific film showings at the Clapham Picture House is the cult classic Metropolis. The screening is 3pm, followed by a discussion with novelist and science writer Simon Ings on some of the themes. Future films in the series include Moon (November) and Memento (February).
