The rise of wiki protocols

In today’s issue of Nature, there’s a news story about a small number of new wiki-based sites coming out that will allow researchers to post their protocols online (in more detail then they can in journals) and edit them after posting. The article mentions perhaps one of the more established ones, OpenWetWare, out of MIT. (Incidentally, the creators of OWW were the first to put up a group here at NNB)

What I found most interesting was the quote from Pam Silver of Harvard’s systems biology department saying molecular biologists “are not very comfortable with the Internet to begin with.”

I wonder what this will mean for our little site here. Well, I hope websites like ours, OWW, the other wiki protocol sites coming out soon will help biologists become more comfortable with the Internet. Because, well, most of the rest of the world has already.
