— The Council of Medical Specialty Societies has released a new “Code for Interactions with Companies,” covering conflict of interest and financial disclosure, among other topics. Already, 13 of the 32 member societies have signed on to the policy, which will also apply to their respective journals. (WSJ)
— Arizona State University settled a dispute with the local Havasupai Indians after tribe members said their genetic information was being used by school researchers for studies they had not agreed to. The university will return Havasupai blood samples, as well as provide $700,000 in compensation and other assistance. (NYTimes)
— The US Food and Drug Administration has a released a draft guidance for new rules of disclosure regarding members of its advisory committees. Among the proposals is posting conflicts of interests online prior to such meetings, and including both company name and the kind of financial tie. (Pharmalot)
— Researchers say they’ve discovered a mechanism by which resveratrol — the beneficial compound found in red wine — might protect against stroke damage. A study of mice suggests that resveratrol increases levels of the enzyme heme oxygenase 1, which is already known to protect nerve cells during periods with little oxygen. (ScienceDaily)
