This Weekend: Eat A Sciency Meal, With Some Sciency Theatre

For anyone who loves genre-defying events, here’s one to stir the imagination as well as the palate. The ArtForEating superclub are hosting a meal (on both Saturday and Sunday evenings) with subtle science themes. They’re not revealing the full menu yet, but the do promise you:

five delicious courses including an incredible deconstructed bloody mary ‘caviar’, fillet of cod with coconut foam and test tube sauces, and rosewater and orange flower ice creams to be made at your table without refrigeration.

So far, so Heston Blumenthal. But things now begin to get a little weird with the introduction of a theatre troupe:

To counterbalance our facts with some fiction, we’re joining forces with Sheer Drop Theatre Company, who have a series of specially commissioned stories to bring to the table. Your table…Inspired by legend, myth and fairytale, with a scientific twist, Sheer Drop presents an evening of intimate theatrical storytelling to melt your bones and rattle your heart.

And for those of you worried about missing the football on Saturday night, they won’t be showing it, but they will be providing a drink for every England goal scored.

So that’s theatre plus food plus science plus sport plus drinking. Practically a cultural Olympics in one room.

The fun takes place on 12th and 13th of June at an undisclosed location just by Blackhorse Road underground (Victoria Line) at 7.30pm. Maximum booking is six heads per party. The meal costs £30, including five courses and all the entertainment. Email charlotte.jarvis@network.rca.ac.uk to reserve. See the Facebook page for more details.
