If you’re a fan of facts, wine and historic buildings, scribble down a note in your diary for 20 September. That’s when I’ll once again be co-hosting (and writing) the Royal Institution’s scientific pub quiz. Six rounds cover everything from celebrity scientists to science fiction. The questions are aimed at anyone with an interest in science – you don’t have to be able to quote the Avagadro constant to 8 decimal places, or anything like that. Simply turn up at the RI’s Time and Space bar before 7pm on 20 September. Entrance is £2 per person, with the pooled takings doled out to the winning teams.

If you’ve got a taste for such things, I’ll also be hosting a London-themed quiz at the RI as part of the Story of London Festival. That one takes place on 8 October, at 7pm. Again, just turn up on the day with entrance fee of £8 per team. All proceeds will go to the Mayor’s Fund charity.
