When Networks Do Good: Science For Humanity

Remember these guys? Science for Humanity are a network of scientists attempting to apply their knowledge to solve some of the world’s problems. The network was established around a year and a half ago by hardworking Baroness Susan Greenfield. I even got to say hello to her at the launch party. She was charming.

They’ve now hit their first big milestone: attracting 1000 members. These scientists are drawn from many disciplines and over 70 different countries. Ironically, this laudable achievement was spurred on by technologies such as Twitter and Facebook, which Greenfield is well known for criticising

The Science for Humanity forum looks like an attractive sandpit for scientists to exchange ideas and help solve planet Earth’s most pressing problems. As far as I can tell, no solutions have yet been fielded, but it’s still early days. I’d encourage all you real scientists to sign up today and see if there’s any advice you can impart.
