Win! Science Career trump cards

Regular readers will remember that I recently gave away three packs of Cell Trumps – an educational card game that compares attributes of human cells.

Well, now we’ve got two packs of a new version to give away.

Top Careers In Science was developed by Loop Games, a London firm that strives to make learning fun.

The deck contains 30 career cards, each representing a different scientific role. For example, there are cards for microbiologist, veterinary surgeon and aerospace engineer. Each career is ranked along five attributes: travel, communication, numeracy skill, computer skill and technical skill.

Players read out the attribute from their uppermost card that they think will most likely trump their opponent’s unseen card. If successful, they capture their opponent’s card. So play goes on until someone has the entire pack.

This is a wonderful way of educating children about the range of scientific careers available. Each career also comes with a short description, and a URL where you can find more details. It’s also fun as a scientist to scrutinise the ratings. For example, biomedical scientists are apparently good all-rounders but don’t get to travel much. I’m slightly miffed that science journalists seem to require zero technical skill. Hmph.

Anyhow, I’ve got a couple of packs to give away thanks to Loop Games. For your chance to win, simply send me an email via my profile with the subject line ‘Loop Games’.

Closing date Monday 8 October.
