Oceansat-2 is India&#8217;s second remote sensing satellite in the series that will study the ocean atmosphere. It replaces Oceansat-1 launched in 1999.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"1.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/indigenus\/files\/1.jpg\" width=\"264\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Global area coverage. \u00a9 <span class=\"caps\">ISRO<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"2.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/indigenus\/files\/2.jpg\" width=\"270\" height=\"312\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mosaic of Indian region. \u00a9 <span class=\"caps\">ISRO<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"3.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/indigenus\/files\/3.jpg\" width=\"270\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Northern and western India. \u00a9 <span class=\"caps\">ISRO<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"caps\">ISRO<\/span> said the three payloads on-board Oceansat-2 &#8212; ocean colour monitor (<span class=\"caps\">OCM<\/span>), scatterometer and radio occultation sounder (<span class=\"caps\">ROS<\/span>) for atmospheric studies &#8212; have been successfully turned on.<\/p>\n<p>The <span class=\"caps\">OCM<\/span>, a multi-spectral imaging radiometer, provides information on chlorophyll concentration and helps locate potential fisheries zones. The scatterometer, an active microwave sensor, facilitates retrieval of sea-surface wind speed and direction, and monitoring polar sea-ice.  The <span class=\"caps\">ROS<\/span> measures parameters pertaining to lower atmosphere and ionosphere.<\/p>\n<p>The data provided by the different sensors on-board Oceansat -2, will also facilitate monitoring of turbidity and suspended sediments, sea-state and sea-surface winds, and meteorological\/climatological studies.
