Ms Doran makes a good point. I work as a pathologist supporting the biotech industry, and need to communicate with many different people, including scientists of many different therapeutic areas. I grew up working class, the first person in my family to go to college, let alone get an advanced degree – learning to explain to my family what I was doing and why it was important has been of great help in my job.

I’m a human pathologist supporting translational research in the biotech industry and need to communicate with many different people, including scientists in many therapeutic areas. I grew up working class, the first person in my family to get a BA, let alone an advanced degree. Learning to communicate my work to my family and why it is important has greatly helped my research and also my mentoring.
