This is a great conversation to have, so many researchers in academia do not realize how much work it can be to obtain a role in a non-academic setting. Networking is so important, as the panelists said, and needs to be constant and start early. When I was in graduate school (many years ago) I wished that there was more guidance on jobs outside academia. I encourage students interested in these types of careers to do an internship, some freelance work or engage with a mentor outside of the lab. It can be time consuming but worth it!
