Some scientists say that lab work can be really boring<\/a> (even if boredom is interesting<\/a>), and, when facing deadlines and lots of work with not enough time, motivation can be in short supply<\/a> for scientists \u2014 especially as we all retreat from once-fresh new year resolutions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why learning how to properly motivate yourself is essential to a scientific career. Not everyone abides by their to-do list, or courses chronologically through their email inbox. Find your own way to do what you need to get done in good time.<\/p>\n

The below infographic \u2014 produced by a media agency and licensed for free to the blog \u2014 might be a good source of inspiration to find your own motivation. It is far from comprehensive, and is only a starting point in identifying motivational lodestones \u2014 not everyone can fit themselves neatly into one of four categories.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, working out what drives you is important, and this is as good a place to start as any. Take it away, infographic!<\/p>\n
