UK government report gives green light to fracking

A report published today by the UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) says that hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, should continue in the country, despite the minor earthquakes it may cause. The report gives recommendations for mitigating the risks of such earthquakes, and invites the public to share their comments.  Read more

Texas passes stem-cell regulations

The Texas Medical Board on Friday approved regulations (see Chapter 198) that are claimed to ensure safe clinical use of stem cells and other “investigational agents”. The regulations, however, have been criticized as too permissive and opening the door for the sale of dubious treatments.  Read more
