As another year comes to a close, we look ahead to 2011 and, specifically, meetings and conferences that might be of interest to scientists who use networks, blogs and other online tools.
We’ve started the list off with a few conferences, but we’d like to crowdsource further entries for the calendar. Please leave tips in the comments – anything from local scitweetups to major meetings that may be of interest to scientists using the internet.
January 13-15 – Science Online 2011, the fifth annual gathering of all things science+web, in North Carolina. The programme has a strong slant towards blogs and blogging, but many other aspects will also be discussed. Lou’s going to be there and hopes to report back, plus you can also watch a live stream of some of the sessions.
March 15 – Science Communication and the Media, in Brighton UK, picks apart the ways scientists get their message across to the wider public.
March 27-30 – Fifth International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT) in Montreux, Switzerland, brings together ‘leading researchers and experts from the medical and hospital community with those from the information and communication technology domains’.
June 6-10 – NetSci11 is less about social networks and more about understanding the underlying science of networks. It will be held in Budapest, Hungary.
July – Likely date for SciFoo 2011, a large unconference for scientists and technologists in Google’s Mountain View campus. Invitation only.
September 2-3 – Science Online London, the fourth annual conference for scientists interested in using the internet to help with research and communication. We’re confirming date and venue as we type, so watch out for more news in the New Year
Tweetups
If you’re on Twitter, you may notice various opportunities to meet fellow sciencey tweeps (usuallly using the hastag #TOWNscitweetup e.g. #NYCscitweetup). The London one is called the #UKscitweetup and we’ve also been involved in organising both a #Camscitweetup in Cambridge and a (now monthly) New York one (#NYCscitweetup). If you know of a regular one in your town, let us know in the comments and we can add it to the listings.

The next #NYCscitweetup will take place the week of 17th January – you can vote for your preferred date here.
