Science Festivals finale: Mapping the World’s Science Festivals

In the final post in our mini-series on science festivals, we have complied a map that marks some of the World’s Science Festivals.

Have we included your local festival?

This map is by no means complete- we would like to know if there are any more festivals in Asia, Africa and South America. Or if you think we have missed another important science festival off, please let us know and we can add it to the map.

Previous maps

We’ve now published twelve Google maps showing key scientific locations in cities and territories across the world – from Hong Kong to Toronto to New York. Thanks once again to everyone who’s contributed so far.

And an index map showing all of these.

This is amazing – love the fact that there are so many in Europe the markers are double decker!

Even Lithuania has its own science festival. This year it will be organized for the eighth time, and will be held in five major cities in autumn.

     Great idea!

Can you please add the Denkfest to the overview? It’s a English-German bilingual festival taking place in Zürich, Switzerland from September 8th-11th.

    Thanks

Can you add it to the overview?

    Thanks!

    Dear Laura,

The information about Science Festivals in Brazil and Latin America is incomplete. On Science Festivals (National S&T Weeks) in some countries of this region in 2012:

    1) Brazil: National Science & Technology Week was realized from October 15 to October 21. About one thousand institutions (universities, schools, research institutions etc) promoted about 26.000 science communication/science education activities in schools and public places of 668 cities and small towns. More information: https://semanact.mct.gov.br

We commemorate also the World Science Day, November 10: https://eventos.unesco.org.br/diadaciencia/. The commemoration you put in your map is not a signficant one in Brazil

    2) Semana Nacional de la Ciencia y la Tecnología – Argentina – June 11-22

    3) Semana Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología – México – September 24-28

There are more science festival activities in other countries of Latin America (Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panamá, Bolívia etc)

    Best wishes

My organisation – the National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology or NIHERST – hosts a science festival as a biennial event. The last staging of the festival, known as “Sci-TechKnoFest” took place last month, from October 1st to 20th 2013. More can be found at this link: https://www.scitechknofest.com/
