This event in Rome was directed at a mixed audience of librarians, university rectors for research and researchers.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1303, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uniroma1.it\/sbs\/biblioteche\/biblioteche-della-sapienza\">La Sapienza University<\/a> is the largest university in Italy, as well as its top-ranking academic institution in terms of the number of published articles, according to\u00a0Clarivate Analytics&#8217;\u00a0InCites 2012-2016.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"wpn-image-link\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/ofschemesandmemes\/files\/2017\/10\/IMG_3602.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-13695 wpn-image\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/ofschemesandmemes\/files\/2017\/10\/IMG_3602-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/ofschemesandmemes\/files\/2017\/10\/IMG_3602-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/ofschemesandmemes\/files\/2017\/10\/IMG_3602.jpg 980w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>A call for collaboration <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Keynote speakers provided lively presentations, addressing the main issues and topics concerning the changing role of libraries and research over the past several years. This resulted in a passionate call for more collaboration and partnership at all levels to respond to the challenges we all face.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> Paul Ayris, <\/strong>Pro-Vice-Provost (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/library\">University College London Library Services<\/a>), Co-Chair, League of European Research Universities (LERU) INFO, Adviser to the LIBER Board (Association of European Research Libraries), Chair, JISC Content Strategy Group.<\/li>\n<li><strong> Tiberius Ignat, <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.knowledge.services\/\">Scientific Knowledge Services<\/a><\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><strong> Marisa Santarsiero,<\/strong> Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unibocconi.it\/wps\/wcm\/connect\/Bocconi\/SitoPubblico_IT\/Albero+di+navigazione\/Home\/\">Library of the University Luigi Bocconi in Milan<\/a> provided us with a dynamic overview of how this prestigious university and its library are addressing the challenge of simplifying workflows for their researchers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The morning continued with experts from Springer Nature, who discussed various related topics. <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dan Penny<\/strong>, Head of Market Intelligence, presented some of the innovations that Springer Nature is now incorporating in its publishing workflows.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Grace Baynes<\/strong>, Director, Data and New Product Development, spoke on the increasing presence and importance of \u2018big data\u2019 in scientific research, the need to make it open, and how to make the various open data policy requirements increasingly required for article submissions more transparent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A presentation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.springernature.com\/cn\/researchers\/scigraph\">Springer Nature SciGraph<\/a>, given by Grace Baynes, provided further insights into open data initiatives.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Elisa De Ranieri<\/strong>, Head of Editorial Process and Data Analytics, Nature journals, provided insights into how publishers are seeking to overcome nagging challenges in terms of integrity, efficiency, reproducibility and the speed of communication of research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Panel discussion <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon a lively round table discussion followed, taking a closer look at various questions.
