According to a new <a href=\"https:\/\/jama.ama-assn.org\/cgi\/content\/short\/303\/10\/951?home\">report<\/a>, the US is lagging in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/nm\/journal\/v16\/n2\/full\/nm0210-141a.html\">comparative<\/a> <a href=\" https:\/\/www.nature.com\/nm\/journal\/v16\/n3\/full\/nm0310-249b.html\">effectiveness<\/a> research \u2014 studies that compare one treatment to another. Of the 328 studies analyzed, only 43% compared drug efficacies, while 19% looked at safety and just 2% weighed costs. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSTRE6284QC20100309\">Reuters<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; A <a href=\" https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/aidsonline\/Abstract\/publishahead\/Circumcision_status_and_HIV_infection_among_MSM_.99587.aspx\">study<\/a> found that <a href=\" https:\/\/www.nature.com\/nm\/journal\/v14\/n9\/pdf\/nm0908-895a.pdf\">circumcision<\/a> made no difference in <span class=\"caps\">HIV<\/span> infection rates among nearly 5,000 homosexual and bisexual men. The three-year study of Western populations is in stark contrast to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736%2807%2960312-2\/fulltext\">study<\/a> of sub-Saharan heterosexual men that found a 60% reduction in infection rates over two years. Two similar bills were previously approved by Congress, but they were <a href=\" https:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/v445\/n7124\/full\/445134a.html\">vetoed<\/a> by former President George W. Bush. Researchers at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaos.org\/education\/anmeet\/anmeet.asp\">meeting<\/a> of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons said they saw a higher risk of an unusual femur fracture among postmenopausal women who took the drugs for more than four years, compared to women taking vitamin D and calcium supplements (<a href=\"https:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/booster_shots\/2010\/03\/bisphosphonates-osteoporosis-medications.html\">LATimes<\/a>).
