(Dutch geneticist Marjolein Kriek <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2008\/05\/080526155300.htm\">reportedly<\/a> had her <span class=\"caps\">DNA<\/span> sequenced in 2008, although the work was never published.) The news also follows two published studies (<a href=\"https:\/\/content.nejm.org\/cgi\/content\/full\/NEJMoa0908094\">here<\/a> and <a href=\" https:\/\/www.sciencemag.org\/cgi\/content\/abstract\/science.1186802v1\">here<\/a>) that fully <a href=\" https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/03\/11\/health\/research\/11gene.html?ref=health\">sequenced the genomes<\/A> of individuals and their family members with rare genetic diseases. This week\u2019s announcements nearly doubles the number of individuals who have had their full genomes sequenced, bringing the tally from seven up to 13.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; A recent survey of 180,000 US physician offices found that 36% have adopted electronic health records (EHRs) \u2014 up 3% from 2009. As expected, larger practices are outpacing smaller ones: 71% of practices with 26 or more physicians have adopted EHRs, while only 29% of solo practices and 37% of two-physician practices have followed suit (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ama-assn.org\/amednews\/2010\/03\/08\/bise0311.htm\">AMNews<\/a>). The <a href=\" https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/ucm203891.htm\">statement<\/a> comes just after <a href=\"https:\/\/www6.aaos.org\/news\/pemr\/releases\/release.cfm?releasenum=877\">new data<\/a> suggested that long-term use of these meds by postmenopausal women <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/spoonful\/2010\/03\/the_daily_dose_bad_to_the_bone_1.html\">could lead<\/a> to more brittle bones and a greater likelihood of fracture. (<a href=\" https:\/\/www.pharmalot.com\/2010\/03\/a-bad-break-fda-continues-review-of-bone-drugs\/\">Pharmalot<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Scientists claim they\u2019ve found a mechanism \u2014 and a potential treatment \u2014 for <a href=\" https:\/\/www.nature.com\/nm\/journal\/v11\/n1\/full\/nm0105-23.html\">alcohol<\/a> cravings. In the study, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/neuron\/abstract\/S0896-6273%2810%2900106-6\">published<\/a> today in the journal <em>Neuron<\/em>, rats deprived of alcohol showed increased activity in a brain region related to motivation.
