Coming up short on promises: greenhouse gases rising. In other news: more of Novartis comes to town

Even though governors in New England promised five years ago to lower greenhouse gas emissions, levels of carbon dioxide have been increasing since then, according to a Maine environmental group, Environment Northeast, the Boston Globe reports. Deval Patrick said in his campaign that he supports cutting emissions, so we’ll wait and see what plans his administration will come up with to do this after his inauguration January 4.

And in case you missed this story from the Globe last week…we’ll be seeing more of Novartis in Cambridge. The pharmaceutical company is moving its vaccine division to Cambridge, which will, according to this article, make Novartis the biggest corporate employer in the city. This will likely mean more jobs for scientists and more competition for those scientists with other local companies.
